Sammy King is amongst the latest crop to graduate from Nottinghamshire’s Academy into the ranks of the first-team squad, making his List A debut in 2021 as a concussion substitute against Glamorgan in the Royal London Cup.
The aggressive right-hander was named Academy Player of the Season in 2020 whilst skippering the side. He went on to captain the Midlands XI at the ECB Super 4s competition the following year, striking 92 against South and West before scoring fifty for an England Young Lions side in an intrasquad friendly in September.
King, whose Natural Sciences degree at Nottingham University included specialisation in Chemistry, Earth Science and Ecosystem Environment, made an unusual entry to the sport. Picked for his year 7 Nottingham High School team without having previously played a game, his natural eye and masterful golf swing brought him a 33-ball 85 and he has never looked back.
King was a Second XI regular last summer and was included in the Outlaws’ squad for the Royal London Cup.
